Police brass: Shooting was unjustified and 'egregious': [seattlepi.com] "Seattle Police Chief John Diaz and Deputy Chief Clark Kimerer said the firearms review board recommended that Officer Ian Birk be stripped of his duties and not be allowed to wear a uniform.

Kimerer called the controversial shooting, in which Birk shot carver John T. Williams last August, 'egregious.' He said the board's finding was the most 'damning' review by a board in three decades.

Diaz began the conference with an apology to Williams' family before announcing the review board's findings. Kimerer then detailed the finding that Birk had not followed his training and should have called for back-up immediately."
