Bulgarian Vigilantes AKA Bulgarian Fascists Attack Refugees in Europe
Why Are Bulgarian Vigilantes Hunting, Robbing Migrants? | Care2 Causes - The video has prompted the opening of a formal investigation by Bulgarian officials into the issue of anti-migrant vigilantism this week. An unnamed individual believed to have uploaded the footage has been arrested and others are being sought.
“We won’t allow random people, talking a walk and calling themselves ‘patriots’ to decide whether to turn refugees back,” Interior Minister Roumiana Bachvarova says.
Why are Bulgarians turning anti-migrant vigilantism? In part, for money; these groups are looting migrants before they send them on their way toward Turkey. However, money isn’t the lone motivator. Fame, as it turns out, is quite compelling too.
Dinko Valev, a 29-year-old spare parts trader, was dubbed a “superhero” during a national news report last month after a video circulated online showing a group of Syrian refugees tied-up. In the video Valev can be heard berating the bound migrants, which included three women and a child, claiming that they came “to kill us like dogs.”
Vigilante groups out to ′hunt′ for migrants in Bulgaria | Europe | DW.COM | 14.04.2016 - "No Bulgaria. No Bulgaria. No Bulgaria. Immediately!" It isn't the first time such a video has surfaced from southern Bulgaria. A similar video was uploaded to Youtube roughly one week earlier, published by an anti-immigrant vigilante. In an accompanying blog post, he said his group had encountered 23 migrants of Afghan origin in the forest. The vigilante goes on to describe that, since his group could not explain to border police their exact location, they then accompanied the migrants to the nearest village. A television crew from the Bulgaria NOVA channel's "No Man's Land" program accompanied the vigilantes that day and published a far lengthier version of the encounter. And finally, on February 14, a semi-professional wrestler, Dinko Valev, uploaded similar footage directly onto his personal Facebook page of a video of a vigilante round-up.
