Domestic violence prevention brings together Indigenous men and women in outback community - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation): Domestic violence is not an issue unique to Indigenous communities. On average, an Australian woman dies every week at the hands of a current or previous partner.

So far this year, 34 women have been killed.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of domestic violence than any other group of women in Australia.

Domestic Violence Statistics

  • On average at least one woman a week is killed by a partner or former partner in Australia.
  • On average, police receive a domestic violence call every two minutes.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of domestic violence than any other group of women in Australia.
  • One in 10 men have witnessed violence towards their mother by a partner before the age of 15.
