Ojibway Migisi Bineshii: International Day of the World's Indigenous People

Today is the International Day of the World's Indigenous People! This day is being celebrated and honored by UNICEF which is committed to promoting the rights of indigenous peoples. The Censored News blog has a letter about this day written by Ellen L. Lutz, Executive Director of Cultural Survival. Also, this article offers more information on the importance of this day.

As I post about this it is already Sunday in other parts of the world. So, there are a few articles already up about celebrations and activities that took place. The Daily Star in Bangladesh has written about speakers who demanded recognition of indigenous peoples, voiced their concerns about the land and encouraged the establishment of tribal cultural institutes. It is clear that the rights and way of life of indigenous peoples continued to be violated in our world.

I encourage you to celebrate and honor this day by meditating, praying, doing a ritual or just connecting with the Earth to offer healing.
