22.8.08
Paul DeMain, editor of News From Indian Country, says a Sawyer County sheriff deputy struck him with a flashlight when the journalist was videotaping a traffic accident Aug. 7 on the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Reservation in Wisconsin.
The video shows the officer, whom DeMain identified as Brian Knapp, approach the journalist and order him to move. In a story in News From Indian County, DeMain said Knapp grabbed the camera, shut it off and then struck DeMain. The recording resumes moments after the alleged incident. The video concludes with an interview with DeMain. Read DeMain's story in News From Indian Country.
