On 9 July 2004, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, ruled that Israel’s separation wall in the occupied West Bank is illegal and should be dismantled.
On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of this landmark ruling United Civilians for Peace organizes the symposium The International Court of Justice and Israel’s Wall: 5 years on – Civil society in search of accountability.
The symposium is a full day event that consists of a plenary part in the morning and two workshops in the afternoon. The workshops take place simultaneously, so you can only take part in one of them.
Registration for the plenary part and the workshops is required (details below). You can either register for the plenary part, for one of the workshops, or both. Admission is free of charge.

Afternoon: workshops, 14.00 - 17.30 hrs
- Workshop 1: Holding states and companies accountable
Inviting participants to share experiences, this workshop aims to identify effective strategies, using the ICJ advisory opinion, to advocate against impunity and to hold states and companies accountable for their complicity in illegal policies.

- Especially relevant for people involved in rights-based lobbying
- Duration: 2 hours
- Workshop 2: Mobilizing the public
Inviting participants to share experiences, this workshop aims to identify effective strategies through which the ICJ advisory opinion and the case of the wall can best be used to mobilize the public towards a rights-based solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Registration for the plenary part (morning) and workshops (afternoon) is required. Important: the deadline for registration is Friday 3 July 2009. You can either register for the plenary part, for one of the workshops, or both. The workshops take place simultaneously, so you can only take part in one of them. If you want to attend the plenary part and one of the workshops, you have to register for both sessions (you can do so in a single e-mail). Admission is free of charge.
