US preachers exporting anti-gay message to Africa - Atlanta LGBT Parenting | Examiner.com: For years US preachers, evangelists and missionaries have been going to Africa under the guise of spreading a religious message, but have become harbingers of hate against LGBT people. This has spurred a major debate about whether the influence of American religious groups has led to a hostile environment where LGBT Africans are subject to rape, isolation, and imprisonment, even execution.

Recently The Center for Constitutional Rights filed a lawsuit against evangelical preacher Scott Lively of Abiding Truth Ministries and Defend the Family International. The suit, filed on behalf of Sexual Minorities in Uganda, alleges Lively has waged a decades-long campaign to persecute gays in Uganda. The suit has been filed under a statute that allows non-citizens to file actions in U.S. courts for violations of international law.
