Investigation needed into NSW police attack on Muslim protest | Stop the War Coalition, Sydney: Sydney Stop the War Coalition deplores the NSW Police attack on Muslims protesting in Sydney on September 15 against the Islamophobic film, Innocence of Muslims.
Originally released several months ago, the film was designed to infuriate and provoke supporters of Islam.
Protests against the film on September 11 in Egypt spread to other nations, including the US consulate in Libya where at least 14 people, including the US Ambassador, died. The Obama administration has subsequently deployed troops to Libya.
In Sydney yesterday, television and eyewitness accounts and footage of the protestors, which included women and children, shows that the NSW police attacked (including with mace and dogs) as people were dispersing. Even those engaging in prayer were not immune from the violent police attack.
