Alarm bells ringing on kura hourua experiment: Mr Harawira says the people involved in the two Tai Tokerau projects are dedicated to doing the best for Maori kids.

But the structure in which they are being asked to work, including being exempted from the need to match existing standards or have registered teachers, is dangerous for the whole system.

"I don’t like the way in which these sorts of unqualified situations only pertaining to Maori and Pacific Islanders. I dont like it. It smacks of ghettoising black kids in the education system," he says.
