Royal Mail privatisation prospectus “totally ignores political opposition to sale”
-         Investors being misled
The Royal Mail privatisation prospectus, issued today, totally ignores political opposition to the sale. Alongside recognised problems such as industrial action and a legal challenge to Royal Mail’s VAT exemption on bulk mail, there are a number of fundamental political risks that the prospectus fails to mention.
These include:

  • Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru policy of renationalising Royal Mail in Scotland and Wales
  • The Labour Party conference voting to renationalise Royal Mail
  • The Labour opposition seeking a vote in Parliament to halt the sale
  • Labour Party policy on the future of Royal Mail
Save Our Royal Mail Campaign Director Mario Dunn said: “Many investors will be unaware of these pressures. The Government is misleading the market over the political pressures facing the sale.
