The Himalayan Times : Country saw 57 bandhs in a year - Detail News : Nepal News Portal: KATHMANDU: Nepal witnessed 57 days of bandhs in one-year period between September 2012 and August 2013, with each day of the shutdown inflicting a loss of an estimated Rs 1.7 billion on the economy, according to a latest survey.
Of these bandhs, 45 per cent occurred due to political reasons, 22 per cent took place to protest deaths and accidents, and 33 percent due to other reasons such as religious conflicts and social problems, says a survey conducted by livablenepal.org. These bandhs extended from one to five consecutive days.
