News Of FIFA Corruption And Racketeering Indictments Sets Twitter Ablaze With Reactions | Politicus Sports: While it has seemingly been common knowledge that FIFA has been shaking down countries and organizations for decades when it comes to hosting World Cups and other tournaments, nothing had ever been done about it. However, most likely after the tiny, oil-rich nation of Qatar received the 2022 World Cup bid, despite the nation’s extremely hot temperatures and minuscule population, the obviousness of the kickbacks became too much to ignore. Considering that the United States is hosting the Copa America tournament in 2016, the Justice Department was able to look into US-based schemes involving FIFA.

In its press release, the Department of Justice alleged that they’ve confirmed�over $150 million in bribes and kickbacks since 1991.
