US Justice Department: No evidence hanging death of Otis Byrd wa - WDAM-TV 7-News, Weather, Sports-Hattiesburg, MS: That effectively puts an end to the investigation into the death of 54-year-old Byrd, who was found hanging from a tree by bed sheets in Port Gibson, MS on March 19.
The FBI and US Attorney's office met with with Byrd's family and NAACP leaders, earlier Friday, to give them the news.

In March, Otis Byrd was found dead on a property about a half mile from his home in Claiborne County.

Since the beginning of the investigation, protesters have organized peaceful demonstrations, demanding answers.

Byrd was last seen alive on March 2nd at a Vicksburg Casino.
