Latin American Unity in the Light of Right-Wing Resurgence | Analysis | teleSUR English: Even ideological adversaries understand the importance of regional unity.

A casual observer of Latin American politics would easily know that governments of Colombia and Venezuela have had their share of disagreements. Colombia is still seen as the United States' strongest ally in the region, while Venezuela has consistently challenged U.S. economic and political hegemony. However, even Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has made a habit of attending regional summits.

But the aims of this new crop of right-wing politicians—such as Macri and the new president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Henry Ramos Allup—represent a real risk to regional integration.
