--
The Central Committee of the KKE learned with great grief the death of Comrade Herbert Mies, a leading figure of the international and the German Communist movement and DKP chairmen in the years 1973 to 1989.

Comrade Mies devoted his entire life consistently to the working class and the people of his country. In his early years he opposed Fascism, resolutely mastered the difficult conditions of the illegal work and the persecution of the post-war period. He was highly esteemed by the Communist world movement and honored with the International Lenin Prize.

Herbert Mies was a militant opponent of capitalism and anti-communism, consistent advocates of proletarian internationalism, defenders of the German Democratic Republic, the Soviet Union, and socialist achievements.

Until the end of his life, he was at the side of the German Communist Party.

The Greek Communists will always remember Herbert Mies for his internationalist work and solidarity.

The Central Committee of the KKE expresses its sincere condolences to the board of the DKP, the Communists in Germany, and the members of the deceased comrade.
