The story of two sisters from Raqqa, both struggling against ISIS | ANHA: “I came out of Raqqa one and a half year ago, and I was there when the Yazidi women were abducted and brought to Raqqa by the [ISIS] gangs,” said Kavser, adding that she witnessed the treatment of Yazidi women who had been taken captive from Shengal and brought to Raqqa.
“Women suffered much in that city. Everything was forbidden. It was forbidden to watch television, smoke, go out, for women to go out alone, or a man and woman going out alone. We were obliged to wear black clothes and we wore it. Women were forbidden from working, they were especially forbidden to go out in the evenings. The husband, father and brother of the women dressed in such a way which would allow their hands and eyes to be seen would be punished. On behalf of women, the society was frightened, threatened with beheading, execution and many other things,” added Kavser.
