Defenders of the Land & Idle No More Condemn Government of Canada’s 10 Principles – UNsettling Canada 150: (August 25, 2017) When the Government of Canada’s released its Principles Respecting the Government of Canada’s Relationship with Indigenous Peoples last month, they said they would “form a foundation for transforming how the federal government partners with and supports Indigenous peoples and governments.” But the analysis by Indigenous representatives from Defenders of the Land and Idle No More suggest that the federal governments “10 Principles” are a continuation of settler attempts to eliminate Aboriginal Title and the pre- existing right of sovereignty and self determination; as well as, a fair and just, interpretation of historic Treaties.
