Eight killed, mutilated in remote PNG village / General News - Efficient Farming : Your one stop Agricultural Portal: Eight people have been killed and several others are missing after a fight erupted at a market in a remote part of Papua New Guinea.

The mutilated bodies of seven men and one woman were found hanging from trees at a village near the border of Madang and Western Highlands provinces.

Chief Inspector Bill Kombel says 11 other people have been reported as missing.

Locals have told police the dead and missing were traders from the Western Highlands.

Inspector Kombel says they may have been killed by rival traders from Madang, but it is not clear why they were attacked.

The area is known for its alluvial gold mining and he says robberies are common.
