AL-KHALIL, (PIC)-- The association of Muslim youth along with the family committee of political detainees in the West Bank invited the Palestinian people from all spectra to participate in the 22nd march on Wednesday against the political arrest policy pursued by the Palestinian authority (PA).
This came in a statement issued Tuesday by the youth association and the family committee.
"As the meeting between head of Hamas's political bureau Khaled Mashaal and PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is due to be held soon, we have expected that a conciliatory environment would prevail on the ground and increase our optimism about an imminent reconciliation agreement, but more violations were documented during the last days in terms of freedoms and political arrests," the statement read.
The statement outlined some violations committed by the PA security forces in the West Bank in the last few days including the attempted murder of the former representative of the Islamic bloc at Annajah university, and the arrest of many university students as well as citizens affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad Movement.
Although they received release orders from courts, more than 90 political prisoners are still locked up in PA jails in the West Bank, 30 of them have been in detention for one year or more.
In the same context, the family committee of political detainees in the West Bank issued an illustrated bulletin on the internet containing the pictures of the most prominent detainees in PA jails.
The bulletin included a brief introduction about 26 political detainees who have spent periods extending from one year to more than four years because of their national affiliations.
