Movimiento Indígena Estadounidense: Leonard Peltier cumple 38 años en prisión: Several organizations, including Amnesty International, have called for the release of Leonard Peltier, who is considered a political prisoner and is now the oldest American prisons inmate. On 24 January, the Special Rapporteur James Anaya United Nations made a visit to the prison Coleman 1, Florida, where Peltier has been imprisoned since 2011 after being beaten by other inmates in Canaan, a prison in high security located in Pennsylvania. Anaya has recommended since 2012, the governments of the U.S. and Canada to reconsider the release of Peltier as a measure that "heal the wounds" with indigenous peoples. "Anaya's visit lasted four hours Peltier has certainly given a boost to the people who fight for their release and will be of great help to the lawyers who are working on the defense," says Els Herten, director of the Kola / Interntional Peltier Forum.
