The arsenal was dealing with aftershocks to practice airsoft, a sport that has dozens of clubs throughout Chile and whose implements are sold freely over the internet, without having to be ordered to Syria or Colombia. Even so, one of the detainees, the Mapuche leader Hugo Melinao Licán, was accused of forming private militia, illegal possession of weapons and other serious charges. And imprisoned ipso facto, without possibility of another precautionary measure.

This week Melinao was taken to court. And finally only by an old hunting rifle found in his house, similar to the one that many peasants use to scare foxes and peucos. Result of the trial? The leader was acquitted by unanimity of the judges and released. But the delinquent accusation of the prosecutors was eight months imprisoned in the prison of Angol. Eight months away from your community and family. Also of its public role.

Let's talk about Operation Hurricane. A new operation of "police intelligence". New accusations on the front page. And new Mapuche detained who will spend perhaps a year or more behind bars before a trio of judges assess the seriousness of the work of police and prosecutors. But it matters little. For the government, guilds and the right the case is more than resolved; the so-called wasap terrorists are guilty. They have no doubts about it.
